On reflection

On reflection is to think about how something could have been done differently. Whilst to reflect on is to think about what has happened in the past. So you might look at your reflection in the mirror whilst reflecting on the past year.

“On reflection, I should have bought the pink dress instead of the yellow dress. Yellow really doesn’t suit me!”

“I think you should reflect on your behaviour yesterday. You’ve upset your mum by saying you don’t like her cooking!”

“Have you seen the sky’s reflection in the river? It’s so beautiful.”
