On the same page

If you’re on the same page as someone it means that you are in agreement with each other. You could imagine that you’re both reading the same page of a book. However, if someone is a closed book you won’t be able to tell what they are thinking because they keep their thoughts to themselves. Whereas, if you can easily tell what someone is thinking, you can say they are an open book. And remember not to judge a book by its cover which means to form an opinion of someone before you have had a chance to get to know them.

Examples

“For once my family is on the same page and we’ve all agreed that we’re going to go on a walk this Sunday.”

“I wish she’d be more open, as I have no idea whether she is enjoying teaching me English. She’s like a closed book.”

“I really hated my maths teacher when I first met him, but by the end of the year I really liked him. It goes to show you must never judge a book by its cover.”
